This was written out to meet the requirements for Alumni Associations under the National Constitution. Thought that I would post this out here to hash out any details so that we can give this back to Allen before Conclave. Please post your thoughts, recommendations, amendments, likes, dislikes, or whatever.
Constitution:
Preamble:
In order to facilitate fellowship in Christ in the spirit learned from our time in Sigma Theta Epsilon, We the Brothers of the Southwest Ohio Northern Kentucky Alumni Association (SWONKY) unite ourselves to promote brotherhood, communication and fellowship.
Article 1: Organization
SWONKY is open to any alumni of Sigma Theta Epsilon living in or having been active in the area of Southwest Ohio or Northern Kentucky. An alumni is defined by the national constitution as those that were conferred the Degree of the Knotted Rope after December 31, 2006 and those having alumni status before said date.
Article 2: Purpose
SWONKY serves as an organization to reconnect Brothers in a social and religious environment, provide when possible contact information to the National Alumni Secretary, and otherwise foster brotherhood amongst its members.
Article 3: Activities
All activities of SWONKY shall maintain the high standards of moral character expected of members of Sigma Theta Epsilon. All activities shall be submitted to the National Alumni Secretary, who will serve as the liaison between the Chapter and the National board.
Article 4: Officers
The officers of SWONKY shall, when numbers allow consist of a President, a Vice President, a financial director, and a recording secretary.
The responsibilities of the President shall consist of being the executive of the organization, heading planning of and organization of all activities, and to chair all meetings of the organization.
The responsibilities of the Vice president shall be to serve in the capacity of the President at meeting when the president is unable to attend meeting, facilitate communication within the chapter, and to maintain a roster of individuals involved in the organization.
The responsibilities of the financial director are to maintain any and all funds associated with the organization and to assure that all financial obligations accrued by the chapter are taken care of.
The responsibilities of the recording secretary shall be to maintain the minutes of all meeting, assist the Vice President in maintaining chapter relations, and maintaining communication with the National Alumni Secretary regarding all events of the Chapter.
Constitutional recognition and amendment:
This constitution shall be submitted to the National Board for submission to the National Conclave of Chapters, and SWONKY recognizes that all amendments to this document must be submitted to the National Alumni Secretary for approval by the National Board.
All constitutional amendment procedures shall be handled according to The National Constitution and Standard of Sigma Theta Epsilon. _________________ Chris Walker

Very quiet in the SWONKY thread. I guess there are no complaints or reservations about what we have here. Good to know. _________________ Chris Walker

Chris,
The only problem I see is in the recognition section. As I read the National Standard, I see no need for the Constitution to be presented to the National Conclave of Chapters. The only place they come in to effect is if an AA needs to appeal a board decision. The decision on whether or not to accept the constitution lies entirely with the National Board: | Quote: | | 2. Upon receipt of the constitution by the National Alumni Secretary, the National Board shall decide whether to approve the formation of the Alumni Association. |
